After an early Fauvist period, the French painter and sculptor Georges Braque, along with Pablo Picasso, co-founded cubism. This artistic style dissolves the figurative central perspective, reduces and analyses the motif to basic geometric forms and places it back together from various view points. 

From 1910 Braque added trompe l’oeil motifs such as nails and newspaper clippings to his cubist paintings, developing his own surrealistic collage technique. Georges Braque’s key theme during his career was the still life. He was the first living artist to have his work displayed in the Louvre in 1961. Today his work is can be seen in the most important international museums.
